14TH ANNUAL MAIN STREET HOLIDAY STROLL RETURNS TO DOWNTOWN WOONSOCKET 

 

The Downtown Woonsocket Collaborative, The City of Woonsocket and the Holiday Stroll Committee are proud to announce the 14th annual Woonsocket Main Street Holiday Stroll, which will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Always held the first Saturday in December, this is a wonderful event for families and friends intended to promote the Main Street area businesses during the busy holiday season; encouraging residents and visitors to buy local and shop small. These small business owners are the backbone of our community always stepping up to support our community, so we invite you to support them by doing your holiday shopping in our downtown area that is growing each year.

There will be entertainment all afternoon and evening with Stroll activities and decorations spanning from Market Square to Monument Square with several musical acts including choirs, singers, and dancers. Some of the activities to look forward to this year include: a scavenger hunt with great prizes, a tree ornament contest, various craft stations at several locations, food vendors, a fire performer, best dressed window contest, a free trolley bus ride around the downtown area, the crowd favorite horse and buggy ride with not one but two this year, and many more fun things to do. This is certainly an event that you do not want to miss. Stop in at the Museum of Work & Culture, Woonsocket Historical Society, Beacon Charter School, Millrace Event Space, Timeless Antiques, Past Down in Time, Monument Square Arts, and more for special activities and refreshments.

The City of Woonsocket will be bringing back the very popular Winter Wonderland at River Island Art Park. Around 4:00 p.m. Santa Clause will be traveling by a fire truck down Main Street and arriving at the park for photo opportunities. Activities will include pony rides and a petting zoo from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., a stilt walker, a tree lighting ceremony at 5:00 p.m., food trucks, live wood carving, music, fire pit and visits with Santa. Come see the beautiful light display that is sure to brighten your night with lots of holiday spirit.

"We are excited to see this popular, fun, and festive event return again in person in 2022" said Steve Casey and Deb Hunt-Casey, who once again are this years' event Co-Chairs. "It truly is the most wonderful time of the year, and the event brings families and friends together to have fun and shop locally at our Main Street businesses. We can't wait to see all your smiling faces at the 14th annual Main Street Holiday Stroll this Saturday!"

This event would not happen without tremendous community support from our wonderful businesses, organizations, community residents and many volunteers.

Details of David Pecker's Involvement in Donald Trump's alleged hush money trial came to light in court Thursday. Pecker took the stand for his third day of testimony, and revealed conversations between himself, the former President, and Associate Michael Cohen. Pecker says he arranged to buy the story surrounding Trump's alleged affair with Playboy model Karen McDougal for $150,000, but backed out of the deal after consulting with election lawyers, believing the payment may break the law.        Students at Columbia University are filing a federal civil rights lawsuit against the school. They filed the complaint with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights on Thursday, demanding an investigation into the school's actions against pro-Palestinian students. The lawsuit alleges Columbia has mistreated students utilizing their first amendment rights.        The Food and Drug Administration says remnants of the bird flu were found in one in five pasteurized milk samples. Earlier this week, the FDA found fragments of the bird flu in commercially sold milk but said it's still safe to drink, as the pasteurization process kills the virus and only leaves small traces behind. On Thursday officials revealed about 20-percent of their milk samples contained remnants of the virus.        Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is having his conviction for sex crimes in New York overturned. The New York Court of Appeals ruled Weinstein did not receive a fair trial. The court found the judge in his trial made an error allowing women to testify about alleged sexual assaults committed by Weinstein that were not part of the charges against him. Weinstein was also sentenced in Los Angeles in February of last year to 16 years in prison after he was convicted of rape and that conviction still stands.        Buying a home is now more expensive than ever. A new report from Redfin found the median home price in the United States is now over 383-thousand-dollars, a record high. The economic research lead with Redfin says prices may drop slightly in the coming months, but buyers should accept that "housing costs are likely to remain elevated for the foreseeable future." The median down payment is also up 24-percent compared to last year, at around 56-thousand-dollars.        Soulja Boy says he wants to help save TikTok. Congress passed a bill on Wednesday that requires TikTok's Chinese-owned parent company ByteDance to sell the app or else it will be banned in the United States. Soulja Boy has offered up a solution, posting "How much yall want for TikTok? I'll buy it." The rapper tagged the social media company in the post.
