Programs are held on Tuesdays from 12pm-1pm on Sept 10, 17 24 & Oct 1 and 8. Sign up for all 5 weeks or attend just the presentations that are of interest to you. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says Democrats have the needed votes to block a Republican spending bill. This comes as Friday's deadline to avoid a government shutdown looms. The bill narrowly passed in the House yesterday by a vote of 217-to-213.        A federal judge is ruling that Pro-Palestinian Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil will remain jailed in Louisiana following yesterday's deportation hearing in New York. Manhattan Federal Judge Jesse Furman has ruled that Khalil will remain held in Louisiana while he weighs further arguments in the deportation case. Khalil, a green card holder, was arrested at his Columbia-owned apartment Saturday night by ICE agents.        Senator Lindsey Graham says he'll be introducing bipartisan sanctions against Russia on Thursday. Speaking to reporters Wednesday, the South Carolina Republican said the ball is in Russia's court to accept a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine. He said he's very skeptical of Russian President Vladimir Putin wanting peace or accepting a cease fire, and that time will tell. Graham added the sanctions would include tariffs on any country that buys Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products.        An update from the Vatican Press Office says x-rays taken on Wednesday show Pope Francis' condition has improved. The pontiff's condition remains stable as he receives high-flow oxygen therapy during the day and non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night.        Two NASA astronauts stuck aboard the International Space Station since last year are going to have to wait a little longer. A four person crew was scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral Wednesday evening. The mission was aborted about an hour before takeoff because of a hydraulic issue with the clamps holding the Falcon 9 rocket in place.        Eminem is trying to bring the WNBA back to Detroit. The Michigan rapper has joined a team of investors including Pistons owner Tom Gores, Lions quarterback Jared Goff and General Motors CEO Mary Barra who are hoping to bring an expansion team to Detroit.
