City Council Special Meeting - Apr 08 2024

Memorial Day weekend will kick the summer travel season into high gear. The head of the TSA says this will be the busiest summer travel season on record, with over 18-million people expected to be screened from now to May 29th. A spokesperson for Triple-A says they're forecasting nearly 44-million travelers from now through Monday, which would exceed pre-pandemic levels.        A bipartisan border bill is failing to clear the Senate for a second time in months. Senators voted 43 to 50 to tank the bill this afternoon negotiated in the fall by Democratic and Republican senators. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer put the bill on the floor for a vote after it was blocked in February by Republicans.       Wall Street is closed after seeing the Dow Jones Industrial Average have its worst session of the year so far. This comes despite a surge from Nvidia after it posted its latest earnings yesterday. The chipmaker posted better than expected first quarter results, which sent shares above one-thousand-dollars.        A new national poll out of Wisconsin shows both leading presidential candidates head to head with voters. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are tied in the Marquette Law School Poll out of Milwaukee. The poll included candidates Robert F Kennedy Junior, Jill Stein, and Colonel West, each getting three percent of the vote.       What's shaping up to be a busy hurricane season will start next week. Forecasters are eyeing a tropical wave expected to form in the Caribbean, but it doesn't look like it'll develop into anything significant. This comes as NOAA this morning predicted the most aggressive hurricane forecast ever including 17-25 named storms, eight to 13 hurricanes and four to seven major Cat 3 or stronger storms.       The Boston Celtics will look to take a two-nothing lead in the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals tonight. They'll host the Indiana Pacers at 8 p.m. Eastern. Last night, the Dallas Mavericks won game one of the Western Conference Finals against the Timberwolves in Minnesota.
