Rep. Sanchez to serve on two House committees

 

STATE HOUSE — Rep. Enrique Sanchez will serve on the House Committee on Corporations and the House Committee on Special Legislation, Speaker of the House K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick) has announced.

The House Committee on Corporations considers issues relating to financial institutions, business regulation, property and casualty insurance and consumer protection. The House Committee on Special Legislation handles bills pertaining to commissions, resolutions and issues that do not fall within the purview of other standing committees.

Representative Sanchez (D-Dist. 9, Providence), a first-term representative, has made education and health care top priorities.

 

 

Jury selection will continue tomorrow in Donald Trump's historic hush money trial. During the process, reports say the former President smiled at a group of potential jurors when the judge referred to him as "defendant." Trump is accused of falsifying business records to cover payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.        Anti-Israel protests took place on interstates, roads, and bridges in cities across the U.S. today. They converged on New York's Brooklyn Bridge and clashed with police. Meanwhile on the West Coast, they completely blocked southbound traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge.        President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden earned 620-thousand-dollars in 2023. On the day taxes are due in the U.S., their joint tax return was released by the White House. Former President Trump declined to voluntarily release his tax returns while in office.       Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is slamming President Biden's approach to Iran. While speaking on the Senate floor, McConnell said Iran has been emboldened under the Biden administration, citing Tehran's recent attack on Israel. He called for "meaningful costs" to be imposed on Iran in retaliation for the attack.        Storms are sweeping across the Central and Eastern U.S. today bringing the risk of hail, high winds and tornadoes. The biggest area to look out for stretches from Texas to southern South Dakota. The storms will intensify this afternoon and head eastward into the night. Another storm system is taking aim at Eastern North Carolina and Virginia.        CBS says it's going to re-air Billy Joel's concert special. Last night's pre-taped concert, celebrating Joel's 100th residency show at Madison Square Garden, got cut off by CBS network in the middle of his song "Piano Man." CBS apologized to Joel and his fans and says "due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans," Joel's performance, filmed on March 28, will air again in its entirety on April 19 at 9 p.m.
