North Smithfield – Full Revaluation Project for 2021

Please note the revaluation company will be working in Assessor plat 12 starting December 20, 2021.

The Town of North Smithfield is preparing to visit and inspect all improved properties in the Town as part of the 2021 Revaluation Project. The state of Rhode Island mandates that cities and towns revalue all property every three years, (RIGL 44-5-11.6). The town has hired Northeast Revaluation Group, LLC, a municipal revaluation vendor located in Warwick, RI to assist with the project. The process is expected to begin mid-April 2021.

Data collectors from Northeast Revaluation will have identification badges, will be wearing red vest, and their automobiles will be registered with the North Smithfield Police Department. When visiting a property, inspectors will place a specialized door hanger on the appropriate door, knock, and step back a minimum of six feet. The door hanger will explain that the data collector will be inspecting the outside of the home. It is important to note that no valuation decisions are made at the time of inspection. At a later date, the property owner will receive an Interior Data Verification letter that will provide an opportunity to review the interior features and make adjustments. The assessing department has additional details regarding this process should homeowners have a question.

Since all assessed valuations are based on sales as of a certain date, later changes in the market will gradually make assessments out of step with the real estate marketplace. The rise and fall of real estate values make certain properties more valuable or less valuable, in relation to each other. It’s for these reasons that the State settled on the three-year schedule for property revaluations.

The project is scheduled for completion in early 2022 and property owners can expect to receive a new assessment notice at that time. The notice will include the new property assessment and information regarding informal appeals. For any questions regarding this process, please call the Assessor’s office at 401-767-2200 ext. 325. A helpful description of the revaluation process can be found on the Northeast website – www.nereval.com . Click on the “Revaluation Explained” presentation icon.

The town will also be informing residents of the whereabouts of the inspectors throughout the town, which streets, or section they will be working in. This will be posted weekly on the town website, and in the town’s newsletter.

Speaking on the campus steps of the New York school with other GOP lawmakers, Johnson said no Jewish student should have to live in fear. Johnson said he's going to speak with President Biden about the situation, and raised the possibility of calling in the National Guard.        Arizona's House of Representatives has voted to repeal a Civil War-era abortion law. State Democrats successfully pushed through a bill that repeals the 1864 that banned nearly all abortions. The bill now heads to the state Senate, where it is expected to be passed early next month.        The Supreme Court will hear arguments Thursday on Donald Trump's claim he has absolute immunity on charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 election. The outcome could determine whether Trump faces a federal trial this year on four felony counts brought by special counsel Jack Smith, which include conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and obstruction of an official proceeding. Trump's legal team argues the former president should have absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for any official acts taken while in office.        Airlines will soon have to give refunds for canceled and excessively delayed flights.
